Slade news

The Slade Campus continues to be a hive of activity.  Houses and units, available for rental, are occupied by Council Administration staff and others for 52 weeks of the year, and there is something happening on most days of the week.
The Country Music Groups practise weekly in the Hall, preparing for their socials, where they raise funds to support local groups.  The Spinners and Weavers meet on Wednesdays in their idyllic surroundings, producing a wonderful variety of hand-made items. Many folk enjoy Pangea Music, which engages the hearts and minds of those musically inclined, several times a week.  The recent Census Collectors had their training at Slade.
The Dining Hall continues to be the venue of choice for functions, catered for by the resident chef, and thoroughly enjoyed by those who attend – groups like the Red Hatters and private groups can attest to this, following their recent activities.  In the coming six weeks there will be three weddings held on campus, following the recommendation of former satisfied clients.
This weekend more than forty Rotary Youth Exchange participants will occupy the boarding house and campus for their activities, and will be catered for on site. TAFE rural students continue to use the boarding facilities to enable them to continue their studies.
Sunday by Sunday the Chapel and Mayhew buildings are used by local church groups for worship.
Aren’t we grateful that the former Warwick Shire Council voted to retain the Campus (to save it from being sold to a developer) when it was put up for sale in 2007!  What housing development would be on the site now, had this decision not been taken! What use and subsequent well-being the community would have been denied!
We look forward to meeting you on Sunday evening (August 21) at 5 pm, at the Slade Rally in Slade Hall.  Please join us to show your support, to enable the Slade Campus to remain in community hands, for you and your family, for generations to come.  We’ll see you there!
