Slade is a community asset

I attended a very interesting meeting the other day about the feasibility of interested persons as a non-profit incorporated entity purchasing the Slade Campus property in Horsman Road for the future use of a myriad of local groups, while reserving some of the land for our town’s future community centre, and preserving the importance of existing features.
With its open spaces, walkways and multiple venues for meetings, Slade is a well-placed property, which is already used and valued by several community groups, and has potential for many more.
Warwick has no community centre and presumably the council has no funds available for such; and while Slade in its present state has proved unsuitable for some other purposes previously suggested, it is absolutely perfect for our ongoing community use.
For those who don’t know because it is not advertised, I understand that Slade has been booked for seven wedding receptions already in 2011, several local clubs enjoyed their Christmas parties in the dining room last year, there are tenants on site, and overnight accommodation available with breakfast if required.  Some of the buildings are permanently used by local groups, and there is keen interest by others to join in.
I think there are many of us in Warwick who could help to take advantage of this terrific opportunity for our clubs and our town, which will pay handsomely in the future.

Warwick
