Waste levy a disgrace

The imposition of yet another state tax on local residents via the State Government Waste Levy is a disgrace.
This is just another instance of State Government legislation creating problems for local councils.
The measures introduced on December 1 put the onus for policing the law on council.
The Council has locked up the smaller area facilities and started a key system for residents, but what will stop illegal dumping everywhere else?
Expecting the honest people of Southern Downs to police this legislation is ludicrous and we will all pay because of the cost of setting in place the new system and fixing up the mess left by illegal dumpers.
To top that off, Southern Downs Councillors intend to close even more of the available dumps, but only after the election. Time to start fighting this nonsense from State Government instead of accepting every crazy dictate from George Street.
