WEATHER JACKPOT FOR SPORTERS

Stanthorpe Sports finally cracked the jackpot on Sunday – a round of golf with conditions ideal and the front nine in play.

One of Sporters’ regular players Terry Byrnes has been struggling with his form recently but on Sunday everything seemed to come together and he returned a nett score of 27. Ivan Juriss also returned nett 27 for his round and a cut of the cards determined the winner. Byrnes got the nod and took the top honours for the day while Juriss settled for the runner’s up spot. There was some was compensation for Juriss who returned the lowest gross off 44 stokes for the nine holes.

The run down went to Dick Hilton with a nett 29. It shouldn’t be too long before we see Hilton in the winner’s circle again as he is playing very consistently of late.

With only one par three on the nine, several players were close to the green but no one managed to stay so there were no takers for the ball on offer.

Sporters should be aware that the Xmas break up is fast approaching and to be eligible, you need to play. Next Sunday, Sporters will return to the back nine with tee off from 8am. Fingers crossed conditions continue to encourage a big field to join the fun.

DON WARRERNER FARWELLED

Golfers,’ friends, former colleagues and members of the wider community came together a little over a week ago for a moving farewell to popular Warwick golfer, Don Warrener.
