The Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) is calling on farmers to ready their properties ahead of what could be a dangerous season, particularly with warnings of above-average rain and fire risks.
Fire authorities have raised concerns for large areas of Queensland, especially in the southern and central regions, which have seen significant pasture growth after last summer’s rain, followed by a dry winter. This combination has created ideal conditions for bushfires. Northern Queensland is also at heightened risk due to unseasonal rainfall, which has resulted in increased fuel loads.
The DAF is offering resources and information to help farmers and graziers mitigate potential damage to crops, livestock, and property. Producers are encouraged to ensure they are well-prepared for any emergency.
