ICAC investigations conclude…but close monitoring still takes place

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has concluded its investigations into the Tenterfield Shire Council, however, the council is still being closely monitored.
A council-issued press release was sent to the Southern Free Times last week, saying that “the council has received advice from ICAC that they have concluded the investigations into Tenterfield Shire Council and have decided that it will not be pursuing the allegations further. The investigations have been running for some time so it is pleasing to see it has now concluded with no action to be taken against anyone.”
Mayor Toby Smith said it was great to finally have a result from the investigations.
“I was very confident that there was no corruption in the council. There were also complaints against myself but they were unsubstantiated,” Cr Smith said.
However, council operations are still under close scrutiny.
“The Division of Local Government is currently closely monitoring the operations of Tenterfield Shire Council. The Division is examining a range of information to determine whether or not any intervention is required,” a Division of Local Government spokesperson told the Southern Free Times on Tuesday afternoon.
No further details were available at time of print.
