Mayoral candidate steps into spotlight

Phillip Buddle is the son of a World War II POW and has spent a lifetime devoted to teaching.
Mr Buddle was elected the Mayor of Uralla (New England) before moving here, has been a high school principal and deputy principal in Armidale NSW and since moving to the Warwick region has been teaching part-time as a relief teacher for Education Queensland at Warwick State High School and within the Warwick district.
He has always been a popular role model for his students both in NSW and since moving to Queensland. Mr Buddle holds degrees in both science and mathematics, and has always been a valuable teacher.
He is a member of the Rural Fire Brigade (Massey and District) and was the administration officer (Southern Downs Region) for two years.
Mr Buddle has decided to throw his hat in the ring to run for Mayor of the Southern Downs Region.
He brings many years of valuable experience as well as his long commitment to the community as a strong leader in a strong council.
As the Mayor of Uralla for two years prior to moving here, Mr Buddle achieved so much for both Uralla and the surrounding districts.
He was a very popular choice and comes to the table here with very strong personal endorsements from both Richard Torbay, Member for New England, as well as the Uralla Shire Council.
Warwick is experiencing very strong growth currently with all the local services stretched to the limit. Like most local residents Mr Buddle has serious concerns about a lot of local issues, within Warwick, Stanthorpe, Allora, Pratten, and all the surrounding towns and communities.
He wishes to focus on building for the future and getting it right; right across the board with education, health, rates, tourism, protecting local business, providing best possible services and community care for residents and visitors alike.
There are many issues that need addressing here,” Mr Buddle said.
He is very aware that it will be a full-time job. He is prepared to devote 100 per cent to the job and welcome the opportunity to really make a difference.
