Bonfire flaming success

The giant bonfire.

The Killarney Bonfire Night was declared a great success by organisers, with more than 500 adults counted through the gates.
“Attendances were well up on last year and all our volunteers did a tremendous job to keep up with the rush,” event coordinator Louise Brosnan said.
“The fireworks, donated by Southern Downs Regional Council, were hugely popular, drawing crowds from all across the district.”
A unique feature of the Killarney Bonfire Night is its fire drum exhibition, with fire drum creators this year creating giant fire breathing dragons, echidnas, elephants, rocket ships, horses and hot rods.
Winners of the Fire Drum Competition 44 Gallon Drum section were, first place Jason Green, Hot Rod, second Jim Bloomfield and Dan Lane, One Horsepower and third Todd Brown, Rocketship, and the Mitsubishi Owners Club of Queensland, Space Shuttle.
In the Other Metalwork section, first place went to Paul Graham, Dragon Dinosaur and second Keith Mundey, Wahoo.
The People’s Choice Award was won by Paul Graham’s Dragon Dinosaur.
Other entries were Andrew Green, XXXX Stein Glass; Sonya Carr, Many Faces; Kris Spindler, Repetitive Art; Cameron Clarke, XXXX Smoke Stack; George Hancock, Six Wheeler; Paul Graham, Snake Pit; Glynn Browne and Rod Vaughan, BBQ; Bill Shelton, Flame Drum; Bruce Browne and Kurt Schulz, Eddie the Echidna; Ian Rowlings, Daddy, I can’t reach the moon; Advanced Metal Products, the Big Billy; KMAC residents, KMAC Tree; Paul Fox, Hip 2 B Square; and Livi and CD, Timber Wagon.
