Fears of hung parliament

THE worst possible outcome for businesses in the forth-coming Federal Election would be a hung parliament, says Warwick Chamber of Commerce and Industry president David Littleproud.

Mr Littleproud said the Chamber welcomed Prime Minster Rudd’s ending of speculation around the election date (7 September).
“This will draw a line in the sand to the uncertainty that has existed over the last three years and we would hope that whoever wins the election wins with a clear mandate,” he said.
“The uncertainty over the last three years has seriously impacted both business and consumer confidence and that the worse case result of this election would be another hung parliament.”
Mr Littleproud said the Chamber would like to see all local candidates in Maranoa match the Coalition’s pledge to fund a study into the best route through Cunningham’s Gap.
“But we would also be interested in candidates’ pledges to fixing the Mt Lindsay Highway and the other parts of the Cunningham and New England highways, highlighted in the recent Ausrap report released by RACQ.”
Mr Littleproud said the Chamber would be interested in the Coalition’s and Labor’s plans to reduce both red tape and costs on business after both have seriously impacted the viability of many small businesses and a clear plan to cut this is now over due.
“The Chamber also believes the management of the economy is critical and it’s imperative that both sides of politics clearly show a plan for the future,” he said.
