DIGITAL copies of popular magazine titles such as Vogue Australia and GQ are now available for viewing via the Southern Downs Library’s new online service.
Principal Librarian Samantha Shelbourn said the online service is called “Zinio”.
Zinio provides easy access to a range of publications including fashion and lifestyle titles, crafts and hobbies, sports such as golf, cycling, surfing and skateboarding and an interactive version of National Geographic Traveler, as well as many more.
“We are also pleased to announce that we are now offering online access to Universal Class TM; and Transparent Language Online for Libraries,” she said.
“Universal Class TM; provides library members with access to hundreds of online, self-paced, adult education courses in a wide range of topics including computers, business, health, parenting and self-development, as well as support courses for homeschooling.
“Transparent Language Online for Libraries (TLO) is a language-learning system featuring over 80 languages, as well as ESL (English as a Second Language) courses for those learning English.
“Another exciting new service is Project Gutenberg which hosts free ebooks that are in the public domain. Project Gutenberg has over 40,000 items in its collection, including classics, Shakespeare’s plays and rare non-fiction. Books in other languages are also featured.
“All these resources will be available free to library members and we would encourage people to come in and have a look over these new services or to view them online at www.sdrc.qld.gov.au,” she said.
SDRC Mayor Cr Peter Blundell said he was pleased that Southern Downs Regional Library Services were keeping pace with online resourcing and services.
“There are 56 local government library services in Queensland and our service is in the top 10 for bringing the most modern online access to local communities,” he said.
