Frosty mornings to come at the weekend

By Jeremy Sollars

It’s looking like the weekend will be a good time to stay warm in bed with a good book – or someone who’s read one – with temperatures tipped to plummet to below zero for several days from Sunday for the Warwick and Stanthorpe areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) today – Friday 9 August – forecasts that a “complex low” in southern Australia will push a “cool, dry air mass” into Queensland over the weekend, followed by a cold front expected to reach the Darling Downs around midnight on Sunday, the time when any snow is likely to fall on the Stanthorpe area, with the Bureau saying that’s a “slim chance” at this stage.

The cold conditions are expected to peak – or rather plummet – on Monday and Tuesday mornings, with frosts likely across the Southern Downs and Granite Belt.
