Southern Downs Regional Council noted the minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the Killarney Area Promotion Association (KAPA) at the last Council meeting, bringing to light issues that locals care about.

The KAPA meeting was held on 15 September.

Councillor Stephen Tancred attended and chaired the AGM as Council’s representative, and provided a report for Council.

He stated in his report that there were 26 residents in attendance “which is about 25 per cent more than last year”.

KAPA members raised in the meeting that the road closure on the Teviot Road by Scenic Rim for barrier rail works may need physical signs so as not to deter normal Condamine River Road traffic.

The upcoming Urban Design Framework was discussed, with it raised that issues such as kerbing and guttered may be a community concern that this could look after.

Councillor Tancred stated that “I think KAPA will get ahead of the game and go look at the existing UDFs in the Region and be well prepared for when their community consultation starts”.

Members raised that there is an issue on the main road opposite the Credit Union and new Wickhams.

The issue has already been raised with Council and witches hats have been placed around the unsafe roadside.

Councillor Tancred stated that Council has 680 logged road issues and will get to it.

KAPA members also raised that mowing was a possible future issue.

Councillor Tancred assured them that Council put on three extra parks and garden field staff in response to residents’ concerns “so hopefully we will be ahead of the game”.
