Southern Downs Council resolved that the future use of the Quik Spray units would lay on the table at the 28 September Ordinary Council Meeting, to allow further information to be obtained.

In the meeting, Cr Ross Bartley said he didn’t like using council staff for something a contractor could do.

“We as a council should be encouraging more contractors,“ he said.

He highlighted the risks involved of something going wrong, stating they had previously discussed abandoning the Quik Spray units because of those considerations

Couincil’s own staff are at risk of having to tidy it up, Cr Bartley said.

Cr Jo McNally said that Cr Bartley had not been present at the pest management meeting, where they had requested that Quik Spray units be reintroduced.

“If there’s any changes it should go back to (the pest management group),“ she said.

Cr Bartley said he was just discussing it, to which Cr McNally responded that his comments gave the impression that he wanted to get rid of the units.

Cr McNally moved a procedural motion to let it lie on the table, which was successful.
