Australia Post and Beyond Blue have again joined forces in an effort to support mental health and combat loneliness.

Throughout the month of September, they will distribute four million prepaid ’Connection Postcards’ to households across the country, encouraging people to check in with friends and loved ones.

Research indicates that nearly half of all Australians will face mental health challenges at some point in their lives, with one in 10 Australians experiencing loneliness in any given year.

Recognising the importance of connectedness and its impact on mental well-being, the ’Connection Postcards’ will primarily be delivered to regional and rural households this September.

The initiative allows Australians to send personalised and handwritten postcards free of charge. Each postcard includes space for a message, as well as a detachable section featuring tips on nurturing connectedness and mental well-being.

Executive general manager of community, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement at Australia Post, Tanny Mangos, expressed delight in continuing the partnership with Beyond Blue and connecting millions of Australians to vital mental health information, services, and each other.

“Feeling connected plays an important role in our mental health and wellbeing. In an increasingly digital world, taking the time to write a note to a friend or loved one reminds them you are thinking of them and is often cherished,” Tanny said.

Chief executive officer of Beyond Blue, Georgie Harman highlighted the significant role of the partnership with Australia Post in sharing important mental health messages with the community.

“Almost everyone experiences loneliness at some stage in their lives, especially those living in rural and remote communities, which is why initiatives like this one are so important to support good mental health practices,” Georgie said.

In addition to home delivery, the postcards will be available at selected post offices around the country. As Australia Post and Beyond Blue continue their partnership, they aim to make a positive impact on mental well-being and foster a sense of connectedness throughout the nation.
