A steady performance has earned Mary Young the Division One win in the Warwick Ladies Golf, Club Warwick RSL Mid Week monthly competition on Wednesday.

The women headed out in the heat to play 18 holes in two divisions, vying for a position in the Medal of Medalists in December. Mary Young’s 72 nett, won the day with Gwen Mills continuing her winning form to be runner up with 74 nett. Judy Lester had the least amount of putts for the division, with 25.

Helen Olsen was absolutely on fire to take out Division two in absolutely awesome style. Olsen blitzed the whole field, with an awesome 61 nett, 91 Gross, no doubt a personal best for a long time. Roslyn Darton was the next clever golfer, with 76 nett. Carole Brandon had the least amount of putts for division two, making only 26 for her round.

Congratulations to all who played in the Australia Day Golf Carnival. There was lots of colourful characters out there, lots of hits and giggles. Thankyou to Jodie Hughes the new proprietor of Warwick Real Estate, for continuing the connection that this fine business has had with one of the first big events for every year.

Saturday 27 January, saw the ladies contingent contest a single stableford for a trophy sponsored by our good friends at The Cherry Tree Coffee and Dining. Plenty of good scores ranging from 20 through to 36, with Margaret Adcock taking line honours with 36 fine points. Jill Barnes was next with 35 points. The rundown went to Carole Brandon 31, Anne Lyons 30, Mary Young 29, Trish Bell 28, Kath Devereux 28, Helen Olsen 28

The club issued a reminder that all fees are due by the end of January, and if any player tries to play in an event without current financial membership, they will be disqualified or refused participation in the event sorry.

Hilton triumphs for Stanthorpe Sporters

Dick Hilton was the best of the day Stanthorpe Sporters golfers played their Sunday morning nine hole competition on Sunday with the front nine being in play. A warm and humid morning for all and was getting much hotter as the morning progressed.

Hilton with a handicap of 18 won with nett 27 for the competition – only to see that handicap slashed somewhat for his next event.

Playing in the same group was Mark Lynam who must have been inspired by Hilton’s play to the extent he collected the runner up prize with nett 28. Along the way, Lynn also collected the ball on offer for NTP at the third hole, a tee shot finishing close to the pin. Also, a good putt resulted in a birdie at the hole.

Completing the honours on the day, Stew Rayner collected for the run down and Matt Burgess again had the best gross score for the nine holes, 37 for the round which included a penalty for a lost ball.

Sporters on again next Sunday morning with the back nine to be in play. Tee off time is at 8.00 am and if interested in playing, please arrive about 20 minutes earlier.
