The clock is ticking for candidates in upcoming local government elections and voters will soon be able to check out.

Come Monday, campaigners will enter the final two weeks of their respective crusades before their fate is known while the first of the votes will start to trickle in.

Pre-polling will officially open at two Southern Downs locations from 9am on Monday 4 March for voters who for whatever reason want to cast their ballot early.

Early voting booths located at Warwick Town Hall and St Paul’s Anglican Church in Stanthorpe will remain open on weekdays for two weeks right up until election day on 16 March.

Early voting will be open to all registered voters and is particularly encouraged for those unable to make it to a polling booth on election day.

Voters unable to attend a polling booth at all, either before or on election day, will have until 7pm on 4 March to apply for a postal vote.

Postal votes must be completed by 6pm on election day, according to the electoral commission who must have received the vote by Tuesday 26 March for it to be counted.

The electoral commission has encouraged postal voters to complete their vote as soon as voting materials have been received in the mail.
