The 2024 MacIntyre Wind Farm Small Grants Program is open for applications from local community groups and not-for-profit organisations.

But anyone who’s interested should get in fairly quickly, as applications close on 2 April.

The program was established in 2019 as one way to ensure shared benefits for the local community from having a wind farm set up in the region.

ACCIONA Energía, the builder of the MacIntyre Wind Farm, donated more than $100,000 to the program last year as part of its mission to have a positive impact on the local area.

Groups can submit an application under one or more of these specialties – enhance education, healthcare or cultural development; promote sustainability, the environment and conservation; promote, provide or support the provision of basic energy and water services.

One of the 2023 sponsorship recipients, Churches of Christ, was awarded $3,000 to build a resident community garden to provide easy accessibility for growing and tending plants and vegetables. Leyburn High School was granted $5,000 to organise a school camp for students. Many other local groups have been awarded grants within the program.

Another offering of the program is for students to apply for a $5000 scholarship to support their plans to undertake studies at university or TAFE during 2024.

Applications for grants funding and scholarships close on 2 April and successful applicants will be notified in April. Application forms as well as terms and conditions are available at community.acciona.com.au/smallgrants.
