Commonwealth kicks in $10,000

Last week the Warwick Cricket Association received a welcome $10,000 donation from the Commonwealth Bank to assist in the rebuilding of their facilities following the floods earlier in the year. It is part of the Commonwealth Bank’s Fours and Sixes for Local Pitches initiative to help rebuild local clubs and cricket grounds affected by the recent Queensland floods.
The Warwick Cricket Association is one of 25 clubs and schools across Queensland to receive this extra assistance. A total of $188,000 was raised as part of the Fours and Sixes for Local Pitches initiative. The Commonwealth Bank donated $4000 for every four and $6000 for every six hit by both Australian and English batsmen at the Commonwealth Bank Series One-Day International at the Gabba on Sunday, January 30.
Ralph Norris, chief executive officer, Commonwealth Bank, said the impact of the floods has been felt far and wide. “We are a proud supporter of cricket at all levels, from the grandstands to the grassroots, and we want to get Queensland cricket clubs back up and running as soon as possible,” Mr Norris said.
Col O’Brien of the Warwick Cricket Association said the welcome funding will assist in the repair of the synthetic and turf wickets at Queen’s Park, which were severely affected by the floods and the turf at Slade Park.  A turf mower destroyed in the floods will also be replaced.
