There was plenty of interest in the Stanthorpe Croquet Club’s come and try day last Saturday. The ladies were only too happy to show off their game to those dropped in. Of course they are still on the hunt for members, however, they are keen to encourage some of the schools to bring their students along and try the game. Far from a game where you merely tap a coloured ball through a hoop, croquet I discovered is a game of skill in much the same way as a game of billiards. In fact it is often referred to as billiards on the green. In an effort to disperse the myths surrounding the game the club has also thrown an invitation to any club or organisation who might like to arrange a fundraising or social day on the green. For further details contact the Stanthorpe Recreational Club. A bit of a tip – if the ladies offer to do the baking – slip into the scones, jam and cream. Their morning tea is pretty special.
