Weather no friend

The Stanthorpe weather has been no friend of the Stanthorpe Mallet players of the past few months and this past week was no exception with only one group able to get on the court due to the unfavourable conditions.

Tuesday five hardy players enjoyed a round of Ricochet Croquet rather than the more difficult format of Association Croquet. Heather Widderick and Sharyn Roser went head to head in what was a close game from the get-go. Both players used good strategy and were prepared to take some risks throughout the game. Roser secured a small lead at the back end of the game and went on to win 26-21 pegging with an accurate shot on the last ball she played. Widderick had three runs of two hoops in succession while Roser scored two runs of two in a row.

Meanwhile, Pauline Smith and Grace Howard played with dogged persistence in their game against Jenny Tunbridge. They were no match for Tunbridge who was in top form and despite their best efforts pegged out on 26. Tunbridge and Smith each had one run of two during the course of the game.
