Netballers from the Darling Downs region came to the South Burnett to gain some experience and have a cracking time.

Junior netball teams from Stanthorpe, Warwick, Kingaroy, and Nanango assembled at the Nanango Netball courts for a netball carnival on Saturday, 9 July.

The carnival was for GO-aged children nine and ten-years-old, as a part of Netball Queensland’s NetSetGO programme.

Katie Mangan is one of the event’s organisers and she said that it’s about getting kids into netball.

“A lot of our kids have never played netball before this year, so it’s a great chance for them to learn,” Mangan said.

“There’s no scores, no ladders, no points, no tables.”

“Just come play netball against some other people.”

The carnivals are a relatively new concept.

Mangan is hoping that the concept continues.

“It’s something that we want to keep going and build on. To give our kids and especially kids from small country towns, a chance to play carnivals, play against some other teams and get some practice.”

“Hopefully, it’s a concept that will get off the ground now and keep going every year.”

On 5 June, Stanthorpe hosted the first inaugural GO Carnival series.

The next town to host the carnival in the series after Nanango will be Kingaroy.
