The Inglewood Roosters upset the premiership favourites, Tenterfield Tigers in the final fixture round of the 2022 Border River Rugby League on Saturday at Macintyre Sports Complex, Inglewood.

After dominating the competition throughout the season, Tenterfield looked well off their best going down 22-8 to a determined Roosters outfit.

The Tigers, favourites throughout the season to win back-to-back Border River premierships had no answers to the strong Roosters side, bolstered by local support from Old Boys Day festivities.

The Roosters opened the scoring early in the game and never looked to be in danger.

They led 10-4 at half-time and extended the lead to 22-8 with a converted Brent Osborne try 20 minutes from the end.

In a strong defensive display, the Roosters were able to defend their lead until the full-time siren.

Despite this loss, the Tigers finished well ahead on the premiership table earning the right to host all semi-final games this Saturday.

The Texas Terriers, the big improvers late in the seaso, also celebrated Old Boys day last weekend comprehensively beating Stanthorpe Gremlins 52-10 at Saunders Oval, Texas.

In front of a large and noisy crowd they gave supporters plenty of opportunities to celebrate and

with “Who Let the Dogs Out” thumping in the background, the Terriers ran in a total of 10 tries. .

In repeat of the round 12 games, this weekend’s opening round of the final series, the Tigers take-on the Roosters to determine the first team into the grand final.

Texas play Stanthorpe, the winner of that game will play the loser of the major semi-final the following weekend.

In front of their home crowd, expect a stronger showing from the Minor Premiers Tenterfield.

There were no surprise results in final round of the Ladies League Tag.

Tenterfield were big winners over Inglewood and are on-track to defend their title.

In Texas, the Foxy Terriers proved too strong for the Gremlins in their 40-10 win.

In Saturday’s Ladies league Tag semi-final, the Tigers look too strong for second placed Stanthorpe and the Terriers will be expecting to win their game against the Roosters.

Games start at 11.30am at Rugby League Park.
