PLENTY HAPPENING AT THE CROSS

Thursday, 12 players took to the green making up four teams to play triples at the Southern Cross Bowls Club.

Danny Lyons from Danny Lyons Sports arranged for friend and relatively new bowler Dennis from the Sunshine Coast to join in. Apparently, Dennis hasn’t been bowling long, but it turns out he is fast becoming a top gun. If the smile on his face was any measure, he certainly had an enjoyable day.

In a tough game, Denis O’Hara, Rob Francis and Geoff Davis managed to score three shots on the last end to narrowly beat Roger Cavanagh, Val Gray and Matt Shepherd 19 – 18.

The winners for the day (highest score) were Al Thornton (who took over from the busy bartender, Peter Klowss), Peter Ridgewell and Wayne Foster. All were in fine form and scored a 22-15 win over Thea Francis, Barry Frame and Joe Torrisi.

There were Social Mixed Bowls games played again on Saturday. Seems joe Torrisi couldn’t take a trick last week. He and partner Al Thornton were beaten 17-12 by Val Gray and Clark Davidson. The winners on Saturday, again with the highest score were Gordon Assay, Cita Weier and Steve Tyter 19 who scored a 19-14 win over Peter Klowss, Barry Frame and Geoff Davis.

Quite a few of the regular Southern Cross players were strutting their stuff in the District Singles competitions at both The Summit and Inglewood Bowls clubs. Congratulations to all those who put their hat in the ring.

Cameron Wilson, Wayne Foster and Barry Ziebell, all made it through the sectional games to play again at Texas on Sunday. All three played well putting up a good fight but failed to make it to the final which will be played Southern Cross Bowls Club at 10am on Saturday 8/9. The finalists are Peter Collis and Rob Capelli. This should be a great game and spectators are most welcome to come and watch as the action unfolds and for those who might be curious the Bar will be open.

In the meantime, this Sunday 2 October it is Footy Fun Day Bowls to coincide with the NRL Grand Final.

Wear your favourite NRL team colours. Everyone is welcome. Please be at the Club 9.30am to be ready for a 10am start.

Don’t have a team but would like to play – give Clark a call on 0427 673 277, put your name down and he will do the rest.

For barefoot bowls, social and competition bowls, functions and bar, it is hard to go past the Southern Cross Bowls Club Inc. located opposite St Mary’s Church in Warwick.

SOCIAL BOWLERS BACK ON DECK
