Warwick Gymnastics Club member Aamilyn Johnson finished her junior career on a high note finishing 15th in the State at the Queensland Junior State Championships at Brisbane’s Sleeman Sports Complex late last month.
Aamilyn, the eldest of fourth Warwick club members at the titles, competed in the level six open competition.
According to club spokesperson Lyndsay Ryan, her best apparatus was the beam.
“It was a wonderful way for Aamilyn to finish her Junior career,” Ryan said.
“She now moves into the Senior ranks and aims to compete in the Queensland Senior State Championship expected to be held in April 2023.”
“The junior gymnasts from our club were aged from under 8’s to Open and were among almost 1000 competitors who took part in the competition.”
She said the youngest of the Southern Downs group, Greta Stibbard proved to be a very capable competitor despite her tender years.
In the level Four under eight’s competition Greta ranked 12th in the state on her favourite apparatus, the beam.
Eliza O’Leary’s best apparatus in the Level Six under-13 competition was the floor where she overcame some mental blocks to complete a wonderful floor routine.
Kaitlin Mahony also participated in level six in the under 13 age group.
Her performance on her favoured apparatus the bars was Impressive.
Kaitlin added a skill to her routine that she had not previously tried in competition. It was a risk that had rewards – she nailed the routine and came away from the competition with a great score.
“The Warwick Gymnastics club is very proud of not just these girls but all the gymnasts from the club who have trained and competed throughout this competition season,” Ryan said.
“We look forward to seeing our gymnasts compete in our fun and friendly Christmas competition which will be held in held in November. “
