The Warwick Cowboys Rugby League Football have announced their 2023 A grade coach with the well credentialled Colin Speed set to over from Matt Grew.

Speed returned to the TRL this season from the Grafton region to coach Newtown.

He also took the reins of the TRL Clydesdales representative side. Speed brings with him a wealth of experience and will be a welcome new face around the Cowboys.

There has been a change to the date of the Cowboys AGM and all interested parties should now note that it will be held on 7 November at the Condamine Sports club. It is 5.30pm for a 6pm start and all positions are to be declared vacant. If you would like further information please contact the Cowboys via email – warwickcowboys@hotmail.com.au.

The 2022 season maybe over but there is still plenty on the boil at the Cowboys. One of the Cowboys most consistent players, Mitch Watson has earned himself a spot in the Western Clydesdales 2023 Hostplus Cup alongside some of Toowoomba Rugby League’s top tier talent.

Having a Q Cup team based in Toowoomba will allow more local players to test themselves in Queensland’s top tier competition.

Clydesdales chairman Tony Coonan said, “It’s very exciting – now players have a a pathway. Previously if you wanted to pursue a football career you had to ;eave Toowoomba.”

Unfortunately, the Clydesdale gain will be a big loss to the Cowboys.

In good news for the Cowboy’s Rugby League club, the Warwick club is to receive $30k in funding to floods earlier in the year caused severe damage to the Fr Ranger Oval and surrounds.

President Dayne Barrett believes that the club and Fr Ranger Oval will be repaired and up and running with no disruption to the 2023 season.

The welcome funding which was announced earlier this month forms part of more than $250,000 donated to community sides across Queensland as part of an initiative from the NRL, QRL and the Brisbane Broncos who were seeking ways to best assist community clubs in Queensland rebuild for the future.
