Clifton Race Club held their annual Cup race meeting at the weekend to wrap up three weeks of Country Cup meetings on the Southern Downs.

The Club has received strong nominations for the Pacific Seeds/Purshouse Rural Cup which is also a qualifying race for the Country Cups Challenge.

Look for a bold showing from the Matt Kropp trained Salazar despite a poor run in Stanthorpe where it is possible he did not handle the tricky track.

By The Law is a last start winner in Toowoomba and looks among the chances.

The supporting races on the five race card have also attracted good nominations.

Peachies Dream and Warwick galloper Sertin were both placegetters in Stanthorpe and get their opportunity again here.

In the Maiden Warwick galloper Mail Out gets his chance to break his maiden after a third to Lock and Load in Warwick on Cup Day.

The Billy Kennan trained Darlhisma is trained on the course and will have plenty of hometown support in the PB Agrifood Maiden over 1000metres.

Gates open at 11am and you can book online. Marquee seating may still be available – give the club a call and of course dress in your finest for the Fashions on the Field.

If you are looking to have a bet in the 2022 Cox Plate, I fancy the Chris Waller-Damien Oliver combination of El Bodegon.
