Rural homes easy targets

POLICE are urging residents to do a home security audit as they prepare for a public crime forum tonight (Thursday).
The Warwick Crime Forum will give members of the public the opportunity to discuss crime in the region and hear police officers advise on preventative and security measures.
Crime Prevention Co-ordinator in Warwick, Senior Constable Wendy Tamblyn, said more itinerants were visiting the city while criminals were driving to country towns because they knew people were more unsuspecting there.
“We’ve still got that country mentality where we just jump out of the car and go shopping without locking up,” Sen Const Tamblyn said.
Many residents left home doors and windows unlocked, thinking “she’ll be right”.
Sen Const Tamblyn said police crime prevention units will visit homes upon request to do a household security audit.
“It doesn’t guarantee you won’t be the victim of crime, but it will reduce the possibility,” she said.
Police also urge residents to use the latest microdot technology to mark their valuables against theft.
Tonight’s crime forum will be held at the Warwick RSL, corner of Albion and King Sts, from 6pm. The Home Security Audit is available at:
