Raceway deal sets limit

STANTHORPE’S Carnell Raceway will be allowed to hold 20 race meetings a year after a compromise was reached in the September meeting of the Southern Downs Regional Council.
The Raceway had applied to have the number of race days increased from 12 to 40, but council decided that would result in unacceptable noise impacts on surrounding residents.
Councillors were told the raceway has been “almost squeezed out” because of housing developments formerly approved by the council.
The use of the site for driver and rider training during business hours in the week will remain and limited camping for some of those directly involved will be permitted.
A spokesman for local residents said they did not wish to comment.
