ROTARY’S motto “Service Above Self” is action again at the Tenterfield Rotary Club raises money to assist victims of the cyclone which devastated the Philippines.
The club has taken on the challenge to raise enough money for five shelter boxes and hopefully organise delivery to the Philippines before Christmas.
Each ShelterBox is contains a tent, bedding, stove and basic items to house 10 people for up to 18 months.
This latest appeal comes hot on the heels of Tenterfield Rotary’s Blue Mountains Bushfire Appeal which provided 30 cartons of clothing and $8000 to victims.
Shelter Boxes cost $1000 each and are the work of UK=based charity affiliated with Rotary International.
The club is planning an auction, garage sale and trading table to be held from 5pm at Tenterfield Showground shearing complex on Saturday 14 December.
An appeal has gone out to the community to donate items for auction and sale, and to attend the event
A bar and barbecue will be operating, raffles, chocolate wheel with hams as prizes, along with entertainment by Josh Moylan, Michael O’Sullivan and Little Phoenix.
All money raised will be used to purchase ShelterBoxes and the event gives Tenterfield residents
an opportunity to contribute to this worthwhile cause.
