Mayor is recovering

SOUTHERN Downs Mayor Peter Blundell will return to work later this month after an operation for a heart condition.
Cr Blundell was hospitalised in Stanthorpe on 16 December after suffering chest pains and was transferred to Mater Private Hospital the following day.
He was found to have a blockage in a major artery and underwent surgery to clear the impediment.
“I am very thankful to the staff at both the Stanthorpe and Mater hospital for their excellent care, and grateful to the community for their kind messages of support, particularly at this busy time of the year,” Cr Blundell said.
“It has obviously been a scary time for both my family and I, but thankfully the prognosis is good.”
Council CEO Andrew Roach said the angioplasty has rectified Mayor Blundell’s condition and he is now on the road to recovery.
“Cr Blundell has taken the Christmas/New Year break to rest and recover and he is progressing well. He will return to his mayoral duties on 27 January.
“We look forward to welcoming him back,” he said.
Mr Roach said Mayor Blundell again thanked members of the community for their concern about his health and was keen to get back to work.
