STORMS over the past week are a stark reminder of the devastating floods of 2010-11.
This week Tenterfield commemorated the events of 11 January, 2011 with the installation of a long-awaited memorial sculpture made from the remnants of a piano which was washed up on local soccer fields.
Artist Michael Henrysson based the sculpture on a flood boat, the finishing touches to the project – a sail and flood marker on the mast – yet to be added.
The project was funded by a CASP (Country Arts Support Program) grant from Arts North West, with support from Tenterfield Shire Council and major sponsors Darren Butler DTB Steel Fabrication, Mitre Ten and Forest to Furniture.
The Instrumental Sculpture Program has also yielded two other sculptures for Tenterfield’s creekside walk.
Community representatives on Tenterfield Council’s public arts committee are investigating other projects.
