Look up and live…

WITH more extreme heat on the way those working or transporting machinery near powerlines are being warned to look up and live.
The hot temperatures can cause powerlines to expand and sag.
Essential Energy spokesman Ben Williams said a long span of powerline need only expand a few centimetres to make a significant difference to the amount of clearance under it.
“As the mercury climbs, powerline heights can change considerably,” he said.
“Farmers, construction workers, earthmovers and even home handymen all need to be aware of powerlines above them when working and the potential for the wires to stretch due to the heat in the atmosphere.
“Just because a machine or ladder might have passed safely under a powerline last week or even yesterday, doesn’t mean it will today,” Mr Williams said.
“Always check there is plenty of clearance under powerlines regardless of the weather or temperature.”
