Roadworks crackdown

MOTORISTS who refuse to slow down through new roadworks have been put on notice as police speed cameras are enforcing roadwork speed limits in Queensland.
The fixed speed camera on the Warrego Highway at Redwood is enforcing a reduced speed limit for roadworks to improve the safety of motorists using the Toowoomba Range while there is also a reduced speed limit of 60km in place on the Pacific Motorway between Worongary and Mudgeeraba.
Road Policing Command Acting Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating has issued the warning.
The reduced speed limit is required for the safety of road workers and road users as the highway has been realigned and lane widths reduced to cater for the road upgrade work.
Acting Assist Commissioner Keating said reduced speed limits were put in place at roadwork sites to ensure the safety of road workers as well as motorists.
“Often drivers don’t pay attention to speed limits and tragically this has resulted in the serious injury and death of road workers, occupants of vehicles and consequential road closures and traffic delays,” he said.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
