A FAMILY fun day held on the weekend has prompted Warwick residents to lend a helping hand.
The Warwick Red Cross Fun Day, held on Saturday, celebrated 100 years of volunteering and aimed to increase awareness about the organisation.
It featured a range of fun family activities and showcased several programs run by Red Cross in the area, including emergency services and programs in which volunteers worked with families to enhance parenting skills, strengthen family relations, and improve links with the community.
Joanne McKinnon, project co-ordinator for the Family Support Program, said the day was a huge success with some people inquiring as to how they could help.
“We had a really good turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy all the games and they got all the information about what we do in the area,” Ms McKinnon said.
“We have had a few people interested in how they can volunteer, which was the aim of the day,” she said.
Melissa Patterson, senior regional services manager, said the Red Cross was an organisation built on volunteering.
“We absolutely couldn’t achieve what we do without the support of volunteers,” Ms Patterson said.
