SOUTHERN CROSS BOWLS
TODAY, Thursday 23 July, will be our Cool Scarves and Silly Socks bowls day. This event is part of Jumpers ‘n’ Jazz week celebrations and anyone, both ladies and men are welcome to come along and enjoy a game of bowls. We will start off with a sausage sizzle at noon and play at 1pm. It would be appreciated if your names can be in by noon. There are trophies for winners and runners up also a multi-draw raffle. Don’t forget to put on your crazy scarf and bright socks.
Our visit in from the Downs Diggers this coming Saturday July 25 has been cancelled so there will now be social mixed bowls only starting at 1pm.
Thank you to our ladies for catering for the district men’s president’s singles last Saturday. Well done to Dave for reaching the semi-finals.
Results of play from last Thursday: C. Wickham, B. Donovan, Y. Reid defeated G. Brack, B. O’Brien, C. Hope in a very close game 15-13. Sunday’s result: R. Francis, V. Gray, C. Hope defeated R. Lawson, T. Francis, Slave in another very close game 18-16.
Congratulations to our ladies – C. Wickham, Q. Hamer, C. Hope and B. Donovan on winning the champion of championship fours last Monday.

Warwick East
THERE was one game of triples played on Saturday and the results were that P. Dipplesman, E. Diery and G. Shelley 24 defeated V. Nelson, B. Lee and B. Friend 15.
There will be no social bowls on Saturday as we have Venus and Vic’s sponsored day on Sunday. Play will start at 1pm with names in by 12.30pm. Venus and Vic are providing trophies for both winners and runners-up, as well as raffle prizes and afternoon tea. Please make every effort to attend to show your appreciation for their generous gesture and to support your club. Visitors will be made very welcome.
Next Thursday 30 July is Red Rooster bowls. Skips please let the club know if your team is unavailable and also ensure you have a full team. Play starts at 12.30pm. Anyone interested in a game should ring the club on 4661 9050 after 10am.

Southern Downs Rifle Club results for 19 July, shot at 500 yards: F Standard Rifle possible 126. Graham Eagle 118.4, Ted Long 114.7, Margaret Taylor 114.5, Dave Taylor 110.2. Target Rifle possible 105. Brian Long with a .303, 90.2. A bright cool morning with a gusty easterly wind made conditions testing. Ted Long a competitor in his nineties scored an outstanding six super x’s in a row in his first round. What’s it they say? Many a good tune played on an old fiddle! Keep it up Ted.
