Casual approach is a gift for the cause

Southern Downs council mayor Tracy Dobie presents the ‘Casual for a Cause’ staff donation to Leukaemia Foundation Stanthorpe Branch representatives John and Carol Morrison.

REPRESENTATIVES from the Stanthorpe and Warwick Branches of the Leukaemia Foundation had plenty of reasons to smile last week.
The representatives were presented with a donation by Southern Downs Regional Council mayor Tracy Dobie at the June general council meeting.
The money was raised by council staff who have been going ‘Casual for a Cause’.
Cr Dobie said the Leukaemia Foundation was the latest local not for profit community organisation nominated by staff to receive donations under a staff initiative called ‘Casual for a Cause’.
“Council administration and library staff dressed down and made donations throughout April and May, and I’m very proud to be able to present our next very worthy recipients, the Stanthorpe and Warwick branches of the Leukaemia Foundation, with staff donations totalling almost $1000.
“Sadly, many residents in communities across the Southern Downs have been touched by leukaemia, whether it’s a personal journey of their own or witnessing and supporting their loved ones ravaged by this insidious disease.
“The support provided by the Leukaemia Foundation and its local members here in the Southern Downs is truly appreciated by those families and by the broader community.
“Council’s Casual for a Cause initiative makes it easy for staff to show their support for important services, and particularly those that are volunteer-based like our local branches of the Leukaemia Foundation, through a co-ordinated donation program.”
The mayor also announced that The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal will be the recipient of the Casual for a Cause staff donations collected throughout June.
