SOUTHERN Downs community organisations affected by drought have been encouraged to apply for funding from the RACQ Foundation to help them get back on their feet.
RACQ Foundation spokeswoman Renee Smith said weather across Queensland was varied but often left disaster in its wake.
“We have cyclones and heavy storms but, on the flip side, more than 80 per cent of our state is suffering through drought,” Ms Smith said.
“We want to make sure community organisations know they can apply for funding. They’re often the heart and soul of local areas and can really help to boost morale.”
Ms Smith said the funding could go a long way.
“Organisations can apply for funding of up to $50,000 and up to $200,000 in exceptional circumstances,” she said.
“This can be enough to provide drought relief by helping a club or organisation deliver critical services to the community.”
More than 160 community groups have been given more than $7 million in funding since the RACQ Foundation was established following the 2011 floods.
Applications for the current RACQ Foundation funding round close on 7 October 2016.
The application form can be downloaded from the RACQ’s website at www.racq.com/foundation.
