Councillors chat up residents

Cuppa with the Councillors set to start.

By Tania Phillips

RESIDENTS will get a chance to have a “Cuppa with the Councillors” at the QCWA Rooms in Stanthorpe later this month.
The first “Cuppa with the Councillors” forum will be held on Monday 26 September from 3.30pm, and is part of a plan to open better communication lines between the Southern Downs councillors and the region’s residents.
The forums aim to give the elected councillors an avenue to engage directly with residents, according to a council spokesperson.
After four months in office, the councillors with Southern Downs Regional Council have reflected on council’s performance from April to July 2016, using a new assessment process that will be undertaken on a triannual basis.
The councillors undertook the first self-assessment process in relation to the achievement of a number of specific goals that they had developed, which have some cross over with the Corporate Plan and other council documents and strategies.
Councillors decided that the assessment would be done as a group and needed to follow a simple process, producing a scorecard using a traffic light assessment format.
The first ‘Cuppa with the Councillors’ forum will be held on Monday 26 September 2016 from 3.30pm at the QCWA Rooms, 5 Victoria Street, Stanthorpe.
