Talent show and much more

GOT talent and ready to hit the stage? Before trying the dizzying heights of X Factor, The Voice or Australia’s Got Talent, primary and secondary students are urged to test their talent on the stage at West School’s Spring Spectacular next Friday evening.
P&C president Kerri Walters said the talent quest was a great chance for students to show off their talent and win some great cash prizes.
“Family and friends get quite a buzz seeing their special little person sing, dance or play an instrument to a delighted audience,” she said.
“Even better if they win, with the senior section offering first prize of $100 and second prize of $50 and the junior winner receiving $70, with the runner-up taking home $30. There is also an encouragement prize of $25.”
Local boy band, The Vellacott Trio, will be tearing up the outside stage at the fete on Friday night. The brothers, who all attended West School, have a loyal and enthusiastic following in town and will be playing crowd favourites along with their original tracks.
Big brother Ben said that the boys had been working on new material, in readiness to record later this year.
“We’ve had some cracker gigs at the New Globe in Fortitude Valley of late, but we’re really looking forward to being on home turf and showing our local fans some love,” he said.
The Spring Spectacular will be alive with little Milli Vanilli’s during the lip-syncing competition from 3.45pm onwards and school bands from both West and Warwick High will also perform throughout the afternoon.
The fete begins at 2.30pm and runs until 8.30pm. With rides, food and entertainment, this is a day the West community and the wider community look forward to all year.
Amusement ride armbands, which entitle the wearer to unlimited rides for the fete’s duration, can be purchased from the school prior to fete day for $35 per person or $40 on the day. Members of the P&C will be available at the school Monday to Wednesday from 8.30am to 9.30am and Thursday from 8.30am to 10.30am to accept payments for armbands.
Fete inquiries should be made to the school by phoning 4660 5333.
