Norma wins another prestigious award

Local resident Norma O’Hara Murphy has won many awards during her career, Songmaker Award, Golden Guitars, Aria Awards, been put in the pavement, and Hands Of Fame in Tamworth, plus many more.
But it is pretty special to be awarded both Songwriter and Female Vocalist at Bungendore Festival. Bungendore is nestled in a green valley near Lake George about 50 kilometres from Canberra.
Bungendore is a festival famous for its strong national pride, which celebrates our own Aussie music, particularly the Bush Ballads, and songs that pay tribute to this wonderful country of ours and the characters and heroes.
The song she won with in both categories is off her Whiskey Gully Road album, Goin’ For Glory a song based on Warwick, the rodeo, the town, and our beautiful roses.
“It is also inspired by one of our best campdraft competitors, Ben Hall, and his old horse (Lex) who was going for glory in 2009.
“The Triple Crown includes Warwick Rodeo’s famous Gold Cup, and two other top Drafts, and Ben had won those and was in the running to win the triple crown plus $30,000 if he won the Chinchilla GrandFather Clock, The Condamine Bell, and the Warwick Gold Cup. Sadly not to be, but I guess he has the song now to remind him of what he nearly had!
“Anyway it’s a good yarn, and it just keeps the Warwick name right up there,” she said.
Ms O’Hara Murphy is determined to celebrate real Aussie music at the Bony Mountain Music Festival near Warwick in September.
The fabulous Bushwhackers will feature this year plus many other fine Australian artists, songwriters and musicians.
The Golden Oldies will feature a wonderful cast of local performers; this was a huge success last year and very popular.
The Bony Mountain Music Festival is very much a community event, supporting everyone who wants to be a part of it all, or if you are keen to volunteer, contact Ms O’Hara Murphy on (07) 4667 4604.
