Stanthorpe misses out

Federal Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott has slammed the Labor Government’s decision to fund a city parkland development over the Granite Belt Support Service (GBSS) after this week’s Regional Development Australia Fund announcement.
Mr Scott said he challenged the government’s interpretation of the word ‘regional’ with cities listed to receive $33.66 million to fund regional development in Queensland.
“I understand the GBSS ticked all the boxes during the final stages of its application but missed out, with the Labor Government continuing its city-centric mentality,” he said.
“The GBSS provide an invaluable service in the Maranoa electorate as a community based organisation, which provides therapy and respite services to children and families managing with a disability in the Stanthorpe area.
“The list stinks.
“I can’t believe projects on the fringe of a capital city were successful. I would not classify Ipswich – which is set to receive $5 million for a parkland development – as part of regional Queensland.
“I’ll keep fighting for a fair share of funding for this and other projects in the Maranoa electorate during the next round.”
