Locals have expressed their dismay at the number of dogs walking off-leash in town, and the number of owners not cleaning up after their pets.

One local said that as Council provide bags for dog poo, there is no excuse for picking it up.

It’s not a pleasant task, they say, but it’s the right thing to do.

Some say they have given up on walking their dogs along Quart Pot Creek as a result of the brazen dog owners.

Locals have also expressed concerns about the risk of attacks as a result of dogs being off-leash.

A Council spokesperson confirmed that there is a dedicated off-leash dog park located between Talc and Britannia Streets near McMurties Bridge in Stanthorpe.

“The park has two dog poo bag dispensers located at each entry point”.

The spokesperson confirmed that locals will be fined by Council for walking their dogs off-leash in areas where this is not permitted, and stated that staff carry leashes for such occasions.
