New airport on the radar

PLANS for a new airport near Toowoomba, and the business opportunities it will create for the region will be presented in Warwick next Friday, 25 October.
Southern Downs’ Regional Council has invited proponent John Wagner to Warwick to give a presentation about the new Wellcamp Airport.
The Wellcamp Airport has been approved by the Toowoomba Regional Council and is expected to be operational in the second half of 2014.
It will be jet capable and will be available for regular passenger services, charter flights, fly in fly out services and airfreight services.
Council’s manager of planning and development, Cecil Barnard said Mr Wagner will give an overview of the airport plans and functions.
“Mr Wagner will talk about the Wellcamp Airport and business park development currently underway and the opportunities this may afford businesses in the Southern Downs’ region.
“The development of the Wellcamp Airport is also likely to open up market access opportunities and for this reason we would urge businesses that may have an interest in developing regional export capacity to also attend.”
Mr Barnard said council’s Economic Development Unit will establish an export network group following the presentation to provide support and assistance.
“We want to maximise any business ideas that are evolving and given we have this golden opportunity with Mr Wagner’s visit, we encourage locals to be involved,” he said.
“This event is a great opportunity to network with like-minded business people and those who have an interest in the development of the Southern Downs,” he said.
The breakfast presentation will be held from 7am at the Warwick Golf Club on Friday, October 25. Places are strictly limited so please RSVP to secure your place by phoning 1300 697 372 or email mail@sdrc.qld.gov.au and advise any special dietary requirements.
