Who are they?

The picture is believed to have been taken towards the end of World War I. Picture: PROVIDED BY DEBORAH WHEELER

AS part of the Kyoomba RSL Research Project, researcher Deborah Wheeler is trying to identify the people in this article’s accompanying photo.
The project is an initiative of the Stanthorpe Sub Branch of the RSL and has been partly funded by the Regional Arts Development Fund.
Deborah is currently sifting through old records and photos to try and piece together the history of what has been called the Kyoomba Sanatorium, Kyoomba Military Hospital or the Stanthorpe Military Hospital.
It was a medical facility used to treat soldiers from World War I suffering from tuberculosis and lung damage from weaponised gas. She is hoping her efforts will shed some light on Stanthorpe’s local history.
“This (photo) was taken outside one of the rooms at the old Kyoomba Sanatorium when it was under control of the military,” she said.
“I am trying to identify the people in the photograph and would appreciate it if any locals could help.”
The hospital was home to military personal towards the end of World War I and Deborah believes the photo was taken sometime after 1914 and towards the conclusion of the war in 1918.
If you believe you can identify anyone in the photo or help with the project you can contact Deborah on 0414 852 492 or email rslkyoomba@halenet.com.au
