Chicken sale a real hoot

THE Stanthorpe Agricultural Society Poultry 2013 Auction last Sunday, 25 August, was hailed a success by organisers with the highest price going to two Pekin Bantam pullets.

A total of 201 lots were offered for auction and prices varied between lots depending on quality and gender.
With lots of females commanding a higher price compared to lots with males and females together.
The average priced paid per lot was $56. The highest price on the day was for two Pekin Bantam pullets which went for $215.
Two dozen eggs were donated for the proceeds to go towards the 2014 Apple and Grape Float.
Bidders were generous and got in the spirit of bidding seeing the eggs combined reaching a top price of $219.
Most likely the most ever paid for a setting of fertile eggs.
Chairperson of the Poultry sub committee Lyn Spencer said she was pleased that the event went very smoothly and thanked everyone for their support.
