By JONATHON HOWARD

THE grave of Tenterfield war hero, Private Leslie James Kiernan, will be given an official War Graves Commission plaque in recognition of his war service.
Private Kiernan served during WWII in the 2/13th Battalion AIF and saw action in Tobruk as one of the famous “rats” and later in New Guinea at Mine Bay.
He passed away in 1973.
To mark the event, a special dedication ceremony will be held at his gravesite on Wednesday, 11 September, from 11am.
Tenterfield Catholic Parish Preist, Father Barry Leech, will bless and dedicate the grave site at the Tenterfield Cemetery. Full story in next week’s edition of The Southern Free Times.
